# Travel Time Calculator

Use this travel time calculator to estimate journey duration and arrival time from distance, average speed, break time, and departure time.

What this calculator does

The calculator estimates moving time from distance and average speed, adds planned breaks, and optionally adds the total to a departure time.

How it works

Moving time in hours is `distance / average speed`. The calculator converts that value to minutes, adds break minutes, and formats the result as hours and minutes.

Example calculation

For a 120 km trip at an average speed of 80 km/h, moving time is 1.5 hours. With a 15 minute break, the total travel time is 1 hour 45 minutes. Leaving at 09:00 gives an estimated arrival of 10:45.

How to use the result

Use an average speed that reflects the trip you expect, including slower roads or traffic. For live navigation, use a mapping app with current conditions.

Assumptions and limitations

This calculator does not use map data, traffic, border crossings, charging stops, train timetables, or route-specific delays.

FAQs

Is average speed the same as speed limit?

No. Average speed should include slower sections, junctions, parking, and likely delays.

Does the arrival time roll over midnight?

Yes. The calculator wraps the time into a 24-hour clock for simple next-day estimates.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include traffic?

No. Use an average speed that already reflects expected traffic, stops, or road type.

Can I leave departure time blank?

Yes. The calculator will show duration only when no departure time is supplied.
