# Lottery Number Generator & Odds Calculator

Use this lottery number generator to create random lines and compare the odds of winning common lottery prize tiers.

What this tool does

Choose a lottery preset, generate one or more random lines, and see the jackpot odds for each line. Named presets also show the main prize-tier odds so you can compare how rare each match level is.

Supported presets

The first version includes UK Lotto, EuroMillions, Powerball, and Mega Millions. Custom mode lets you enter your own main number pool, main numbers picked, bonus pool, and bonus numbers picked.

How it works

Lottery jackpot odds are based on combinations. For a simple 6-from-59 lottery, the total number of possible lines is `C(59, 6)`. For games with a separate bonus pool, the main combinations are multiplied by the bonus combinations.

For example, EuroMillions has `C(50, 5) x C(12, 2) = 139,838,160` possible lines, so the jackpot odds for one line are 1 in 139,838,160.

How to use the result

The generated numbers are random valid lines for the selected format. They are useful for quick picks, examples, or probability exploration, but they do not improve the chance of winning. Every valid line in the same draw has the same jackpot odds.

Assumptions and limitations

The calculator assumes fair draws, no duplicate numbers within the same number pool, and one independent lottery line. It does not predict winning numbers, estimate jackpots, check results, sell tickets, or account for shared prizes, tax, eligibility, local purchase rules, prize caps, rollovers, pari-mutuel rules, or future game changes.

Always check the official lottery operator before playing. Lottery games are gambling products and should be treated as entertainment, not a plan to make money.

FAQs

Do generated lottery numbers have a better chance of winning?

No. Randomly generated numbers have the same odds as any other valid line in the same lottery draw.

Why do some lotteries have bonus numbers?

Some games draw numbers from two separate pools. Others, such as UK Lotto, draw a bonus ball after the main numbers for a specific prize tier, even though players only pick the main numbers.

Can I use custom rules?

Yes. Custom mode calculates jackpot odds for a lottery format you enter, but it does not show prize-tier odds because those depend on each lottery's rules.

Frequently asked questions

Do generated lottery numbers have better odds?

No. Every valid line has the same chance in the same draw. The generator is for convenience and probability exploration only.

Why does UK Lotto not have a bonus number input?

UK Lotto players pick 6 main numbers. The bonus ball is drawn separately and only affects the Match 5 + Bonus Ball prize tier.

Can I use custom lottery rules?

Yes. Custom mode calculates jackpot odds from the main and bonus pools you enter, but it does not calculate prize tiers.
