What this calculator does
The main result is estimated output-image spending. It also shows billable images and cost per requested image after variants and retries. Enter the provider's current price in USD; the illustrative $0.05 default is not a verified provider quote.
How it works
- Billable images = requested images x variants per image x (1 + retry percentage / 100)
- Total cost = billable images x price per image
- Cost per requested image = total cost / requested image count
Variants are deliberate extra outputs for each requested image. Retry percentage adds an allowance across those outputs for rejected variants, creative retries and quality-control replacements. A 10% allowance means 10% more attempts, not the number of attempts required for a 10% failure probability. Fractional billable images are an average planning estimate, not a literal invoice count. Include retries only when they incur charges under your provider's terms.
Example calculation
On 14 October 2026, Google's official pricing lists Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, Standard tier, 1K output at an equivalent $0.067 per output image. This is a resolution-specific output equivalent, not a flat price for every image request or a new preset.
Choose Custom price / image and enter 0.067. For 100 requested images, 2 variants per image and a 10% retry allowance:
- Initial outputs: `100 x 2 = 200`
- Extra billable attempts: `200 x 10 / 100 = 20`
- Billable images: `200 x 1.10 = 220`
- Output-image cost: 220 x $0.067 = $14.74
- Cost per requested image: `$14.74 / 100 = $0.1474`, displayed as $0.15
With zero retries, the same 200 outputs cost $13.40. Prompt/input charges and any text or thinking output must be added separately; $14.74 is not an all-inclusive API bill. Totals retain full precision before currency rounding.

Reviewed 14 October 2026 using Google Gemini API pricing, Google's deprecation schedule, and OpenAI pricing. Image costs can vary by model, resolution, quality, input and output modality, and service tier. Use the quote matching your exact settings.
The previous Gemini 2.5 Flash Image preset has been removed because Google's pages conflict: its pricing page gives a shutdown date of 2 October 2026, while the deprecation schedule lists 15 March 2027. Availability is therefore uncertain in this review. Do not treat the former $0.039 output equivalent as a verified current option. The calculator uses custom pricing until that conflict is resolved; it does not automatically substitute another model.
All prices and cost results are in USD even when another site region is selected; no currency conversion is applied.
How to use the result
Compare batch sizes and realistic variant/retry allowances. Start with a small sample, measure paid attempts and update the price and allowance from your usage records. A custom price can include other charges only if you have calculated an appropriate per-image allowance for them.
Assumptions and limitations
This estimate excludes prompt text tokens, image input charges, text/thinking output, editing, upscaling, storage, taxes, regional uplifts, free tiers, and account-specific discounts unless you include them in a custom per-image price. It models one constant price for all outputs, so mixed resolutions or quality levels require separate calculations. Custom entries are not independently verified by Calcul8.

Does this include prompt or input image cost?
No. This is a per-output-image estimate. Use a custom price that includes additional prompt text, input image, editing or upscaling charges if they apply.
What does reroll rate mean?
It is an allowance for additional billable outputs beyond the requested variants. Enter zero if there are no paid rerolls; a fractional count is a planning average.
